Welcome to My Family Thyme
For those who are new to My Family Thyme, welcome! I’m Lynne… a Connecticut wife and mom of two adult children. I am a Kindergarten teacher by day and a home enthusiast by night. My Family Thyme is my creative place where I share craft projects, recipes, and budget-friendly home decor ideas.
Here in Connecticut, we’re just starting to see those first hints of spring. I’m slowly transitioning my home from winter to spring, brightening things up with simple changes.
Spring always feels like a fresh start — especially after a long New England winter. As the days get brighter and a little warmer, it’s the perfect time to lighten up your home and welcome in the new season. The best part? You don’t need to do a big seasonal makeover or completely redecorate. Just like last year’s Simple Spring Decorating Ideas for Your Home, it’s the little details that make all the difference.
A few simple changes can make your home feel fresh, inviting, and still beautifully cozy.
7 Simple Spring Decorating Ideas
1. Add a Seasonal Wreath
Come on in! A seasonal wreath is one of the easiest ways to welcome a new season into your home. All of our friends and family come in through the back door and I always hang a seasonal wreath here to welcome our guests. I made this Easy DIY Floral Spring Wreath a few years ago. This soft and natural spring wreath is one of my favorites for early spring.
Wreaths aren’t just for exterior doors — they can add so much charm inside your home as well. Bringing wreaths indoors is a simple way to layer in those quiet signs of spring without making a big change. Choose something simple like greenery, boxwood, or soft florals to keep the look fresh and understated. It’s an easy way to add a little springtime beauty to the spaces you use every day.
I recently made this spring wreath for my kitchen, using boxwood, hydrangea blooms, ranunculus, and tulips. I will be sharing a tutorial soon!
2. Bring in Pops of Spring Color with Fresh Flowers
One of the easiest ways to welcome spring into your home is by adding small pops of color with fresh flowers. Even the simplest arrangement can instantly brighten a space and make it feel more alive.
Tip: To help tulips last longer, change the water and trim the stems at a 45 degree angle every few days. Keep them out of direct sunlight.
Would you believe that this sweet little bouquet has been sitting next to my sink for well over a week? You don’t need anything elaborate. A handful of grocery store flowers arranged loosely can create that effortless look. Tuck them near the sink, beside the stove, or in a corner of the counter to add a bit of color right where you’ll enjoy it most.
3. Incorporate Spring-inspired Paper Accents
When I was shopping at Home Goods, the pretty pattern of this blue, white, and green floral wrapping paper caught my eye. I like to use wrapping paper as a runner when we have parties, so I thought this paper might make a good runner for my kitchen table. Using paper accents is such an inexpensive way to bring in a subtle spring pattern.
These blue placemats and gingham paper napkins complement the paper runner and my favorite Nantucket weave dishes. Fresh flowers in a white stoneware pitcher and rustic wood bunnies, along with my Pressed Flower Jar votive holders help to make my kitchen table pretty and practical.

4. Style Simple Vignettes
A simple kitchen vignette is one of my favorite ways to bring a fresh touch of spring into my home. A glass vase filled with vibrant pink tulips adds height and softness, while a bowl of bright oranges brings in a cheerful pop of color.
Next to it, a my favorite cake stand adds a cozy, gathered feel. This week it is filled with my dear friend Traci’s Fabulous Five Ingredient Raspberry Bars. I added sweet blue gingham ribbon for a pop of color. Lastly, a small stack of floral napkins adds seasonal pattern and practicality.
A few thoughtful, everyday items can come together to create a space that feels fresh, inviting, and effortlessly seasonal — no big makeover needed.
5. Swap out Heavy Textiles for Lighter Fabrics
Let’s head into the dining room and living room. Here I have packed away the heavy knits and darker winter tones, and replaced them with lighter fabrics.
One of the simplest ways to refresh your space is by swapping in lighter linens that instantly brighten and soften the room. I added a lighter linen table runner and accent pillows with lighter colors subtle patterns. These lighter textiles pair beautifully with more spring touches like fresh-cut daffodils and greenery. I reshaped my Heart-Shaped Topiary to use it all year long. These little changes help make this space feel renewed without changing the decor.
6. Bring in Natural Elements
Woven baskets and wooden accents can help add warmth and organic texture, while keeping your space relaxed and cozy. I like to use baskets to gather decor to create vignettes.
I also love to bring in branches, like forsythia and cherry blossoms. I look forward to incorporating them in the next few weeks as our snow completely melts and buds begin to appear.
7. Use High Quality Faux Florals
I am so impressed with the quality of faux florals that are available. Would you believe that these snowball flowers are artificial? I love how beautiful and realistic they look! They brighten up this room. The best part is that you only need to purchase them once. They are easy to store and reuse year after year.
Mixing faux flowers with fresh flowers is a great way to keep decorating simple and low-maintenance. In the past, I created this Spring Arrangement Mixing Faux & Fresh Flowers.

Spring decorating doesn’t have to be complicated. In fact, the simplest changes often make the biggest difference. By adding a few fresh touches, lightening your space, and bringing in natural elements, you can create a home that feels both refreshed and cozy.

Lynne, the simple vignettes with fresh fruit and flowers that come to mind are always a perfect combination. You cannot go wrong with the beauty of the two together. I love the use of wrapping paper as a runner. Your home is absolutely beautiful!

All these pops of flowers and greenery are so pretty, Lynne! I love that you use wreaths indoors and out. Sometimes I pass up on fabulous wreaths because I know there is no way they will make it outside with the coastal winds and hot Florida sun. Now I know I can bring them home and use them throughout the house. Sending you hugs for a warm and happy Spring season, CoCo
Lynne ~ Blue and white gingham is such a perfect touch for spring! I love how you added pops of bright blue throughout your decor to really bring it all together. The placemats with the scallopped edge are beautiful and the treats on the counter look irresistable. I think we forget the power of adding a little bit of fresh baked goodness into our decor to complete that welcoming feeling of spring! Thank you for sharing your gorgeous home and ideas. This spring blog hop was fun to do with you my friend! Happy Spring!
This is all so beautiful, Lynne! I love the wreath that you made for your kitchen door – I’ll be looking for the tutorial! And your paper table runner is genius – I’ve done that for Christmas but I never even thought to try it for other seasons! Smart and economical! The pops of color are so pretty and cheerful – your home is so inviting. I love the New England vibe! (I’m originally from Long Island, in TN, and I miss that aesthetic!). Thank you for sharing your beautiful home!
Your spring home is so pretty and cheerful! I love all of your blue accents, little ribbons and vintage items mixed in here and there, like the milk glass and jelly beans. Beautiful flower arrangements make each space cozy and welcoming.
Happy spring!
Beautiful tour, Lynne! I love all of your ideas for spring wreaths hanging in special places inside the home. And, peony tulips are my favorite. (What a gorgeous color!) Thank you for inviting us into your home!

Beautiful tour, Lynne, and all great tips! You’ve really inspired me today.
Seeing one of your wreaths had me remember one that I have, love, and totally forgot about. Plus, I’m going to dig out a cake plate and put the goodies on it. They don’t have to be homemade! It’s much nicer than just leaving them in the box on the counter. lol. (sad but true). Excellent post. Happy spring!
Such simple, pretty, Spring touches, Lynne:) Your home looks so fresh, even if there’s a little snow still left. Think ours melted over the weekend; yay! Happy Spring!
