Hello and welcome to the January Pinterest Challenge! This is our first PC of 2026! Each month, our lovely host Cindy from CountyRoad407.com, chooses a photo to inspire a group of creative blogging buddies. Using the inspiration photo, we recreate something similar, but in our own personal style.
If you are heading over from Lora Bloomquist, welcome! I am so happy you are here! Don’t you just love Lora’s style and how she incorporates vintage finds into her décor?
This month our beautiful inspiration photo comes to us from Kate of Southern Home and Hospitality. Kate’s pretty rosemary heart-shaped topiaries with the soft florals create such a warm and elegant Valentine’s Day display.
I love to decorate with topiaries and they are so easy to make. I made this traditional topiary, but have never made one specifically for Valentine’s Day, until now.
What you need:
- Wire hanger (mine came from the dry cleaners)
- Floral wire or twist ties
- Greenery: real or faux (I used this inexpensive Nandina leaves faux garland from Michaels.)
- Mini LED lights, ribbon, small flowers, or additional greenery (optional)
- Small pot or container + floral foam (I used this container that I had from a fall centerpiece.)
How to Make a Heart-Shaped Topiary:
- Place a piece of floral foam inside a pot. Hot glue or twist it in to be sure it is stable.
- Straighten the curved, hook end of the hanger and shape the body of the hanger into a heart.
- Starting a little above the end of the hanger, wrap the greenery around the wire, overlapping for fullness. Secure with green floral wire or twist ties.
- If using lights, add them now by wrapping them around the garland and wire form.
- Put the end of the hanger into the floral foam, in the pot. If using lights, tuck the battery pack into the pot as well.
- Spread the over the floral foam with greenery from the garland.
- Decorate by adding ribbon, small flowers, or additional greenery, if you would like.
- Adjust the topiary for shape and display.
Pro Tip: Add these mini LED lights (with green wiring ) for a cozy glow.
Display your DIY heart-shaped topiary on a table, counter, or mantel, for a pretty Valentine’s Day accent.
