A Halloween Ribbon Wreath

October is here and Halloween is just around the corner! To get ready for those trick or treaters, I decided to make a fun and festive DIY Ribbon Wreath.

Wreath making is so much fun! I started this project on Facebook Live on Friday, as part of the Friday Favorites, crafting event. However, cutting the ribbon took longer than I anticipated, and I didn’t finish in the hour. So I finished it up and am sharing it with you today.

Why you will love this DIY Ribbon Wreath

  • Versatile and Customizable: Follow this process to make a wreath for any decor, season, or holiday!
  • Budget-Friendly: You can make this wreath for less than $20, depending on the ribbon you choose.

DIY Ribbon Wreath Supplies: wire wreath frame, scissors, Halloween ribbon

Supplies

  • Wreath Form (I purchased mine at Dollar Tree, but I found similar ones here and here.
  • Ribbon: You will need 5 different rolls of wired ribbon, at least 2 1/2 inches wide. I purchased this seasonal Halloween ribbon on Amazon.
  • Twine or thin ribbon.

Additional Materials

To add a festive touch to this wreath, I purchased ghost wood cut outs at Dollar Tree.

I painted the ghost cut outs using DecoArt acrylic craft paint in warm white and then added letters to say “Boo”.

1. Cut the Ribbon

Measure and cut the ribbon into 8-inch pieces. You want to cut eighteen, 8-inch pieces for each of the five ribbon patterns. So, you will have a total of ninety pieces of ribbon. This is the most time consuming part of making this wreath. At this time, fold your ribbon in half, length-wise and snip the ends of your ribbons to create tails. This will elevate the look of your wreath, making it look finished.

2. Create Ribbon Bundles

Using one piece of each of the five different ribbons, pinch and pleat the ribbon, and layer the patterns to create a bundle. Secure the bundle with twine or thin ribbon. Create a total of eighteen ribbon bundles.

3. Attach the Ribbon Bundles to the Wreath Form

When looking at the wreath form, you will see that there are two inside (middle) wires and six cross bars, diving the wreath into six sections.

To create an even and full DIY ribbon wreath, I attached three ribbon bundles in each section.

In each section, attach the first ribbon bundle to one of the middle wires and the cross bar by tying the twine or thin ribbon in a knot. Trim the excess.

Then, attach the remaining two ribbon bundles by tying them to the middle two wires.

Repeat this process until your wreath is complete.
