1. Are you looking to clean your cutting board naturally? Try using half of a lemon with a little course salt to scrub the surface. Then just rinse with water.
2. Clean the glass in your home naturally with vinegar and water. Mix 50% distilled white vinegar with 50% tap water to create an all natural glass cleaner. I love how it cuts grease on my glass stovetop and doesn’t streak. Give it a try and let me know how it works for you!
3. Did you ever stop to think about cleaning your dishwasher? I didn’t until recently, when mine was being repaired. The repairman showed me all of the grime and build up in the hoses and explained me that the dishwasher actually needs cleaning on a regular basis. Am I the only one who didn’t know this? What is the solution? Of course, it is my favorite cleaner, vinegar.
- Just take 1/2 to 1 cup of distilled white vinegar and pour it into the bottom of your dishwasher. Then run the dishwasher through a cycle, without any dishes. He advised me to do this once a month to help keep the dishwasher and hoses clean. Genius!
4. To keep your garbage disposal clean and smelling fresh, use a combination of baking soda, vinegar, and citrus fruit. Pour about a 1/2 cup of baking soda down the drain. Add 1 cup of vinegar. This reaction will break up any build up. Then rinse with hot water.
5. Another way to quickly freshen the garbage disposal is to add a few slices of lemon or orange and run the disposal.
6. Another method to keep your disposal fresh and the blades sharp is to freeze citrus slices and vinegar in ice cube trays. Just pop a frozen vinegar cube in your disposal when needed. How easy is that?!
7. Do you ever have the problem of food splattering in the microwave? When cooking in the microwave, cover dishes and bowls with a coffee filter! Such an easy solution!
8. I loved my kitchen floor when I initially picked it out. I still love the neutral tile, but the grout is another story. After trying many different remedies, I finally found an easy solution to keep it clean. This works on sealed grout. Mix 7 cups water, 1/2 cup baking soda, 1/3 cup lemon juice, and 1/4 cup vinegar. After mixing it in a bucket, pour it into a spray bottle. This solution should fill up two spray bottles. Then just spray on the sealed grout. Let it sit about 10 minutes and then scrub with a stiff bristle brush. Wipe with a towel. After cleaning the grout, steam mop the floor.
9. Clean your stainless steel, taps, and sinks with a slice of cucumber. Rub a slice of cucumber on the surface. It will remove the tarnish and return the shine without streaks!
10. Are your glasses a little cloudy? To get them crystal clear again, try soaking them in white vinegar for five minutes. Then rinse them with water and dry them with a clean, microfiber cloth. They’ll be sparkling!
11. Along with being an essential baking ingredient, baking soda can be used as a very effective and budget-friendly cleaner for nearly every spot in your kitchen. Just add water to baking soda and use it to clean your counter tops, microwave, stainless steel sink, and stove top too.
12. Clean your fruit with baking soda? Yes! In a mixing bowl, add one teaspoon of baking soda for every two cups of cold water. Stir to dissolve. Remove vines and outer leaves from your produce. Submerge the fruit/vegetables in the water and let it soak for about 10-15 minutes. Use your finger to lightly rub the skin of the produce over running water. Produce should be washed right before you plan to eat it.
13. Do you ever get pesky fruit flies in your kitchen? A few fruit flies can quickly multiply and become a big problem. But not to worry…I have a very effective solution. Just add some apple cider vinegar to a small bowl. Then mix in a squirt or two of dish detergent. The fruit flies will be attracted to the scent of the vinegar.
14. I recently purchased the Safer Home Indoor Plug-In Fly Trap from Amazon. It arrived on Monday and so far, it is working really well! These insect traps simply use UV light to attract insects and a very sticky glue board to trap them.
15. Are you a coffee drinker? My daughter and I are! I use my Keurig coffee make everyday and have for the past ten years! To keep it working well, it needs regular cleaning. I have tried cleaning it with vinegar, but to be honest, it took a so many rinses to get rid of the vinegar taste that I looked for a different option. The one cleaning product that I have found that really works well is Quick and Clean Cleaning Cups for Keurig Machines. With easy to follow directions, cleaning your Keurig is fast and easy. These pods provide great results for keeping your machine brewing smoothly.
16. Do you ever have a hard time getting those crusted roasting pans clean? I have an easy and inexpensive solution for you. Generously sprinkle the pan with baking soda. Then, pour hot water so it is about inch deep. Let sit for at least five minutes. Lightly scrub and rinse.
17. One chore that I tend to put off is unloading the dishwasher…particularly putting the utensils away. It always seems to take so long. Thanks to my friend Carolyn, I have a tip to share with you that will make unloading your dishwasher a breeze. When loading it, sort the utensils. It will make unloading and putting them away so quick and easy.
18. Some of my kitchen plates are looking a little old and scratched. Removing those scratches is easier than you think! To remove scratches from your plates, simply make a paste of baking soda and water. Buff into the scratches, let stand for a few minutes, and then wash as usual. The plates will look as good as new!
19. Table salt can sometimes tend to solidify and clump inside the salt shaker. To prevent this, I have an easy trick to share with you. Add a few grains of rice to the salt. The rice will absorb moisture and keep the salt dry.
20. Cleaning the copper and bringing back its original shine is an easier chore than I thought it would be. To clean it, mix equal parts salt and flour and then add white vinegar to create a thick paste. Carefully apply the paste all over the copper piece and gently rub it in a circular motion with a soft, clean cloth. Then rinse the excess paste from copper piece with water and dry it with a microfiber cloth.
21. This past weekend I wanted to clean my oven, without chemicals. I tried a new method that worked great! I am so excited to share it with you. Preheat your oven to 450 degrees. Partially fill the roasting pan or oven safe pot with water. Once the oven is preheated, place your roasting pan in the oven and set your timer for about 45 minutes. After the timer goes off, turn the oven off. Let the oven cool and CAREFULLY remove the pan of water. The steam will loosen any grease and build up. Then, just wipe the condensation from the interior of the oven with a clean cloth.
22. Have you ever used lemons to clean your home? I have a great idea for cleaning your silverware and making it sparkle! Slice a lemon in half and place one half of the lemon in the utensil holder in your dishwasher, with your silverware. Run the cycle as usual and enjoy your sparkling cutlery! Discard the lemon half when finished.
23. Baking soda is a natural deodorizer. Use it to freshen your smelly trash can. After washing the can out, just sprinkle baking soda in the bottom of the can to get rid of any lingering smells.
24. With Thanksgiving and the holiday baking season approaching, now is the time to get your pantry and spices organized! I recently purchased this set of glass spice jars with labels to organize my spice cabinet. The glass jars are thick and well made, and the set came with a large variety of sticker labels. After filling all of the jars, I now know exactly what spices I have. Plus, I just love how uniform and organized it looks!
