Fall Kitchen Decorating Ideas

Welcome to my Connecticut home! All friends and family always come through our porch to the back door and enter into our kitchen. Our kitchen is truly the heart of our home. It’s the place where everyone tends to gather, so I thought that it would be the first room that I decorate for fall.

Similar to my subtle early fall decorating ideas from last year, I strive for my home to be warm, relaxed, and inviting. When thinking about fall decorating, it is not just about a look…it is about creating a feeling and stimulating one’s senses. Today I am sharing how to create a cozy fall kitchen in 7 easy steps.

Hang a Wreath

Nothing says welcome like a seasonal wreath. To welcome our guests, I have hung my simple fall wreath. The combination of rich autumn colors and textures add a beautiful fall touch.

Wreaths and greenery aren’t just for the outside. On an interior door in the kitchen, I hung this pretty DIY Fall Wreath that I recently made. It is a great way to add pops of fall color to your space.

Use Seasonal Foliage and Florals

When possible, I do enjoy bringing the outdoors in by using real seasonal foliage and florals. Those faded summer hydrangea blooms are so easy to dry and can be used to make dried hydrangea wreath. Last week I made the wreath that you can see is displayed on a mirror in my dining room.

I picked up this sweet bouquet of seasonal flowers, including zinnias and dahlias, from my local farmer’s market. The naturally warm colors help to make the space feel cozy and inviting.

Use Candlelight to Create a Soft Ambiance

Soft glowing candles helps to create a cozy atmosphere that encourages family and guests to relax and linger a bit longer. You may enjoy making these pressed flower jars. On my table, I created a little vignette using on this pretty copper tray using of my pressed flower jars, a mini pumpkin, and one of my DIY pressed flower pumpkins.

Display Fresh Ingredients

I love to bake, especially in the fall. When it is a little chilly outside and the harvest brings the flavors of apple, pear, pumpkin, and warm spices, baking can feel so comforting.

Why not display some of the fresh fruits and spices for instant seasonal decor? The colors and scents of these fresh ingredients are so pleasing.

Add Cozy Linens

Linens add both color, texture, and a seasonal touch to your kitchen. I tend to use more neutral shades in my decorating, like the casual taupe gingham tablecloth that is covering my kitchen table. These leaf stamped tea towels were a simple craft that I made several years ago.

Shop the Look

Bring in seasonal scents

Since I have the ingredients on hand, why not use them to create a fall simmer pot? A simmer pot is an easy, inexpensive, and natural way to make your home feel cozy and inviting. The aroma of orange, apple, cinnamon, and cloves simmering on the stovetop can help create a warm, fall feeling.

The sweet, spiced scent of these Easy Pumpkin Muffins with Crumb Topping added to cozy, fall feel, and I knew that my family and friends would enjoy them.

Incorporate Warm Colors in Your Accessories

Incorporating accessories with warm colors can add to the feeling of coziness. Copper pieces, rich reddish-brown satin ribbon, and inexpensive seasonal artwork adds a nod to autumn.
