Springtime brings a promise of new beginnings.  It is a time when everything feels fresh and new.  Spring is also the perfect time to set a simple, neutral table that can be the perfect backdrop for this upcoming season. By using a neutral table setting, accessories can be very easily updated for the upcoming holidays, such as St. Patrick’s Day and Easter.

I have been admiring all of the beautiful spring floral wreaths, garlands, and table runners on Pinterest and Instagram.  Recently, while browsing in the flower section of Hobby Lobby, I was so impressed with the collection of artificial greens and flowers.  The variety of colors and textures looked so realistic. I began collecting a few different greens and flowers to bring home. I decided to use these realistic stems to make my own greenery table runner. This was my first time putting a runner like this together.

I started with a plain muslin table runner as a base.  I had bought mine a few years ago at Hobby Lobby, but you can find a similar one here.

Materials:

  • artificial lamb’s ear
  • artificial boxwood
  • wedgewood blue dogwood spray
  • neutral string
  • floral wire
  • floral wire cutters

Directions:

Putting the garland together was a little trial and error.  I cut apart all of the pieces and played with the greenery until I found the right combination.  I began with the lamb’s ear, using three cut stems on each side.  Next, I filled in with two cut pieces of boxwood on each side and two of the blue dogwood sprays. When I felt like the greenery was in the right place, I wrapped green floral wire around the stem to attach it to the string.  This process helped to keep the greenery in place.

I repeated the same process on the other side of the table. Lastly, I added a couple of Dollar Store candles that have a faux-marble exterior.

The best part of this artificial greenery table runner is it is reusable.  Since it is artificial, when I am ready to change up my decor, I can wrap it and store it away until I am ready to use it again.

For the center of the table, I decided to use this beautiful cloche (a Home Goods find!).   It is like a blank canvas.  I can change the theme of this tablescape, depending what I use to fill this cloche.

The place settings for this tablescape are very simple.  Each setting is made up of a jute place mat, a Lenox Poppies on Blue dinner plate, my DIY cloth napkins, and topped with Rae Dunn Bloom and Spring Melamine Plates.

This neutral tablescape can easily be dressed up for the upcoming holidays.  Add a shamrock plant bits of green for St. Patrick’s Day.  Nests, delicate eggs, bunnies, and pastel colors can be added for Easter.  Both of my children’s birthdays are coming up later this month, so I will be dressing the table up for them.
