Hello and Welcome to May’s Pinterest Challenge!
Each month, our lovely host Cindy from CountyRoad407.com, chooses a photo each month to inspire a group of creative blogging buddies. Using the inspiration photo, we recreate something similar, but in our own personal style.
If you are visiting from A Stroll Thru Life, welcome! I am so glad you are here! Marty always shares the most creative ideas and this challenge is no exception.
This month is all about celebrating the special men in our lives with a Father’s Day Picnic Buffet. Our beautiful inspiration photo comes to us from Lori at Giggle Living. Doesn’t this photo look like summer entertaining? It is my inspiration for my Sports-Themed Father’s Day Picnic.
My Guy…
I am a very lucky lady to be married to my husband, Andy. We have been married for almost 27 years. He is not only a very loving, supportive, and encouraging partner to me, but also an extremely devoted dad to our two children, Chris and Lis.
Choose a Theme for Your Picnic
When choosing a theme for your picnic, think about what he likes. So, when thinking about what Andy would like most, I thought about all of his favorite hobbies, interests, and places. Andy is a fan of the game of baseball. He is a loyal Boston Red Sox fan and loves to cheer them on at historic Fenway Park. This was my inspiration for a sports-themed Father’s Day picnic.
Other Sports Theme Ideas
- baseball
- basketball
- football
- hockey
- golf
- lacrosse
- soccer
- running
- tennis
- pickleball
- swimming
- sailing
If your guy is not a sports fan, consider movies, music, or art…anything that is unique to him!
How to Decorate for a Sports-Themed Father’s Day Picnic
For your Father’s Day picnic, you don’t need to run out to the party store. Instead, think about the colors you want to use and shop your home. The Red Sox colors are red and blue, which are so easy to find.
Then, incorporate some accessories as decor. I added baseball glove and ball, a plastic helmet, and a cup as a vase.
Food Ideas for a Sports-Themed Father’s Day Picnic
For food, I stuck with Andy’s game day favorites…hot dogs, popcorn, pretzel bites with cheese sauce, and chips. Of course, I added some veggies and dip too!
Thank you so much for visiting today. I hope you are leaving here with some inspiration for celebrating your special guy! I would love to connect with you on Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, or here on the blog!

This is adorable! My husband grew up on the West coast but has been a Red Sox fans since he was 10…I am going to do your Father’s Day table for him! Thank you for the inspiration! So fun!
This is too cute, Lynne! I can see using this idea in so many different ways for everything from Father’s Day to parties for the littles too. My Dad is definitely golf obsessed so I can’t wait to talk to my Mom about giving him a golf inspired buffet. He will be tickled pink! Big hugs, CoCo
Thinking of hobbies was a great idea! Not sure what I’d do for my husband. I think the only thing he likes doing is piddling. LOL! And riding the tractor. I can say this though – he’d LOVE the hotdogs and pretzel bites with dipping sauces. Such a cute idea and I love all the coordinated decor to go along with it. Super fun and it gave me a great idea for an upcoming hotdog night. Thank you for joining us. I know it was a bit inconvenient. pinned
Lynne, love your Red Sox themed buffet and, of course, hotdogs!!! What else does one eat when you go to the ballpark? 😉 I have never been to Fenway Park but my cousins go at least once a year. My father was a diehard Sox fan and it would have been fun to recreate your table for him. My husband really enjoyed our hotdog buffet. Love the pretzel bites!
Love how you used everyday items on the buffet; so cute. Pretzel bites & cheese sauce sound pretty delish with hot dogs;)
I love it all. The perfect picnic set up for any sport or season. The menu is definitely my favorite.
