I’m Lynne. I am a Connecticut wife, mom to two young adults, and fourth grade teacher by day…as well as a crafter, baker, and self-proclaimed home decor enthusiast by night. I am a lover of all things home and family. My Family Thyme is a creative place where I share budget friendly craft projects, furniture updates, and simple recipes.

Welcome to my Connecticut home! This week we were so happy to welcome Spring! Last week we were so fortunate to enjoy some glorious weather here in New England, and it inspired me to decorate. I am excited to welcome spring into my home and share some simple ideas for spring decorating with you.

The Dining Room

From visiting My Family Thyme, you can probably guess that my favorite color combination is blue and white. I am love all shades of blue, from a rich navy to a light baby blue. A couple of years ago, I painted our dining room walls this beautiful shade of blue, called Slate Blue by Benjamin Moore Paints and I love how it came out.

I had fun decorating this little antique side table for spring. My husband had purchased this table for me at an antique shop when we were first married, almost 25 years ago. The table is covered with a vintage linen runner, purchased at a flea market.

The candlestick was a Goodwill find that I painted using my DIY chalk paint, and then distressed it before adding a little dark wax. The topiary is also a simple craft project. You can read all about How to Make a Topiary in 5 Easy Steps.

This little plant has been moved around my home to try to find a place where it will do well. I am hoping that on top of this green wine rack will be the right place! I tucked it inside this little cloche with some Decoupaged Easter Eggs.

You can see my Easter Bunny Reverse Canvas in the background. Have you ever made a reverse canvas? It is such a fun, inexpensive craft project!

Refreshing the dining room for is easy if you just concentrate on the table. I recently visited Trader Joe’s and picked up some inexpensive seasonal bulbs. Placing them into vintage milk glass makes them a little more special.

The buffalo check runner is from our local Buy Nothing site. It is a wonderful community Facebook site where local neighbors give and receive, share, lend, and express gratitude. I have both given and received over the past couple of years. Do you have a Buy Nothing site in your community too?

A few days later, they were beginning to bloom. Don’t you just love the colors of spring?

These will eventually be planted out in my yard, but for now, we will enjoy the colors and scents of spring in our home.

This picture below is our view from the kitchen. Although we don’t use our dining room as often as I wish, I love to add something to the table since the view can be seen from both the kitchen and the living room.

The Family Room

Our family room is the room where we spend most of our time. It is a cozy and comfortable space, full of character. For the our spring mantle, I added my DIY Farmhouse Style Signs, along with some faux beaded eucalyptus and more thrifted candlesticks painted with DIY Chalk Paint.

Spring means lighter fabrics and lighter colors. I recently painted this room Edgecomb Gray by Benjamin Moore Paints and I love how fresh and bright it is!

We recently purchased a new sectional from Ikea and had a custom made slipcover made from this Etsy site. With this being the room that we use the most, it is great to have something that I can just throw in the washer. Plus, if we want to change up the decor, we can just change the slipcover. So easy!

Spring pillow covers, vibrant colored glass bottles, and my favorite Trader Joe’s hydrangeas make this room light and bright for Spring!

Changing a pillow cover is a simple way to update your home’s decor. The Stenciled Fabric Pillow Cover was such an easy and fun craft project, and it goes so well with these blue and beige faded floral pillow covers, also from an Etsy Shop.

Do you light candles in all seasons? I do! When you light a candle, it just takes the ordinary and makes it extraordinary. I found these pretty light blue glass candle holders on Amazon.

Ranunculus are some of my favorite flowers. I couldn’t find any fresh ranunculus, but I found these very realistic faux flowers. Now that I think about it, I wish I had added some water to these to make them look a little more authentic. Have you ever done that?

When I had taken out my camera to take pictures, my sweet puppy, Sadie, laid down and posed. I think she wanted to say hello and be included too!

  20. Lynne, love your spring home tour, and Sadie is so adorable. I would like to invite you to link up to Whimsy Home Wednesday link party https://www.vintagestylegal.com/2023/03/whimsy-home-wednesday-no-19.html for a chance to be featured. I love ranunculus too, but never thought to add water to my vases to make them appear more realistic. I cannot keep anything alive to save my life so faux is the only way to go in our home. Thank you for the tip.

    1. Thank you for your kind words, Cara! I appreciate the invite. I will definitely check it out. Happy almost Spring!! xo
