Decorating for a new season doesn’t mean redecorating your home. By adding a few simple and inexpensive touches, you can bring the warm and cozy feeling of fall into your home.

The entryway in our home is a relatively small and simple space, with DIY Board and Batten on one wall and a neutral paint color in a matte. It is furnished only with my grandmother’s deacon’s bench. With a few simple autumn additions, it now feels ready for the new season. I hope you enjoy these entryway fall decor ideas.

Add a Cozy Blanket

Fall in New England means a chill in the air and the need for cozy blankets. Along with providing warmth, they can add texture and a feel of fall to your home. Depending on the blanket you use, they can also be a great way to add a pop of seasonal color to your space.

Layer Pillows

Fall is a great time to mix textures, colors and patterns and give you a cozier feel.

This year I decided to stay with the blues that I have been slowing adding to our home and to bring fall colors into this space in other ways. When recently shopping at Target, this Threshold Jacobean Square Throw Pillow caught my eye. The pretty blue and natural pattern, with the tassels is great for layering on my bench.

Change Out Artwork

I have used my entryway to display some of my favorite Martha’s Vineyard Watercolors. These are some of the same prints that I share with you when you subscribe to my email list.

For the new season, I decided to change them out for these beautiful Autumn Leaves Botanical Watercolor Prints by Susan Fern Art. I purchased these downloadable prints and printed them at home on watercolor paper. These prints are such an easy and inexpensive way to bring in a seasonal touch. They are one of my favorite fall entryway decorating ideas.

Bring the Outdoors In

Bring the outdoors in by adding natural elements to your entryway decor. Fall stems, dried hydrangea blooms and pine cones add organic fall colors and textures.

I recently dried some beautiful hydrangea blooms and used them to create this beautiful wreath. It only took about 10 minutes! I’ll be sharing the complete tutorial later this week.

Adding a few high quality faux fall branches to a large artisan vase is a great way to bring in the colors of fall.

Add a Lantern

Lanterns and candles can make a space feel so welcoming. For safety reasons in the entryway, I am a big fan of using flameless candles. At night, it makes the space feel cozy and inviting.

Bring in a Basket

Another one of my favorite entryway fall decor ideas is to use baskets. Woven baskets bring in rich colors and textures. I added some pine cones, but you can use baskets to hold plants, blankets, or pillows.

Add a Unique Pumpkin

A few years ago, I had painted traditional Buffalo Check pumpkins. I recently had some fun painting this classic gingham pattern on this pumpkin with shades of blue. You’ll enjoy this simple, step by step tutorial for Gingham Painted Pumpkins. Have fun making this seasonal craft and bring a unique bit of fall into your home!

  1. Your entry way looks so pretty, Lynne. You know I love the blues (ordering that pillow now). I bet this space feels so cozy in the evening with the lantern candle going.
Looking forward to the wreath and pumpkin tutorials too!

    1. Lynne,
I was born and raised on the shore in Conn and now my husband and I have retired in N.C. Every fall I get homesick for New England. We have a beautiful fall here but it doesn’t get cool till Oct. I will put out my autumn decor after labor day but can expect the hot weather to linger. A trade off for a mild usually snow less winter. Also our children and 10 grandchildren are in N.C. Last month we were gifted with our first great granddaughter. How time flies.
Love your simple decor and I agree that orange and blue are a great combination. Love it in my garden too. Enjoy a great fall in beautiful Ct.

  2. Lynne, I love the touches of blue for fall. It’s my favorite color. Your entryway is inviting and cozy, just what we want for fall. I also love your use of fresh and faux florals. Who doesn’t love a hydrangea wreath and faux branches are perfect. I’d love to bring in real fall leaves but often they are buggy or not nice looking. Why not use faux?
