ORC: A Cool Gray Paint Color for the Office

What is The One Room Challenge?
The One Room Challenge, hosted by Linda at Calling it Home and Better Homes and Garden, is a challenge where featured designers and guest participants are challenged to transform a room in just six weeks. This challenge is not a competition, but a celebration of creativity and inspiration. This year things are a bit different due to our current situation with COVID-19. The ORC began a month later than originally planned and we will have 8 weeks to complete our spaces. Our Home Office:
Two weeks ago, I shared my plan for transforming our bare home office into a beautiful, cohesive, and functional space. I was on the hunt for a true, gray color. Of all of the colors I looked at, Stonington Gray by Benjamin Moore, was what I chose for the walls. I had the paint color lightened by 50% since the room has only one north facing window, and therefore is the room in our home that gets the least amount of light. The result is a gorgeous, cool gray paint color that acts as a neutral, calming backdrop for the room. I had the paint mixed in Benjamin Moore’s Regal Select in a satin finish. This paint does a great job of hiding any imperfections in the walls and covers well, with just one coat.
I didn’t realize what a difference this color would make. Now, the room feels so light and fresh.
The trim is also receiving a fresh coat of white paint. I am using Benjamin Moore’s Regal Select in an Eggshell finish. I will use this easy and efficient trick for painting windows.
This coming week I am also planning to add some personality and style to this space with a wall stencil. I have never used a wall stencil, but love the look. I can’t wait to share the beautiful, simple wall stencil I have chosen. It is exciting to see this space start to come together!
My goal is to have the trim and stenciling completed by the end of the weekend, so that next week I can share it with you.

- Week 5: Paint furniture
- Week 6: Add lighting, storage/organization accessories
