Welcome to the February Pinterest Challenge Blog Hop, hosted by My Pinterventures. The purpose of this Pinterest Challenge is to motivate all the participants of this hop (and you too) to not just pin, but to make it happen! This month I chose to try out an easy hack for adding a wireless wall sconce by Nesting with Grace.  This DIY is the most clever way to add light to your space without needing to wire it. Imagine, having light with no power…genius!

Grace actually shared two posts about this hack.  In her first post, DIY SCONCES TO HAVE LIGHT WITHOUT POWER “MAGIC LIGHT TRICK”, Brooke shared how she first used this hack. Then, in her follow up post, she includes a helpful video to help you with her magic light trick.

If you have been following along, you know that I had grand plans for our basement rec room as part of the $100 room challenge.  Well, the basement turned out to be a much bigger project than I anticipated.  Once we started tackling this neglected space, my project list grew. I knew that I wanted to add more lighting to the basement, particularly near the stairs. This quick and easy trick is perfect for adding light to this dark space!

To start with, I ordered this Design House Mason 1 Light Wall Light in Oil Rubbed Bronze from Amazon. I chose this sconce for a couple of reasons. I really like the farmhouse look of this sconce, and with the opaque shade, the puck light would not be seen.  Planning ahead, I also ordered a Wireless Remote Control LED Puck Light 2 pack.  I ordered the 2 pack because I had already started thinking of all of the places I could add touches of light throughout my home.

This project was one of the quickest and easiest that I ever have done!  It took about 5 minutes to complete.

Materials:

  • wall sconce
  • LED puck lights
  • light socket adapter (I purchased mine at our local hardware store)
  • batteries

I thought I would need my glue gun, but the puck lights came with a double-sided foam adhesive.

Directions:

  1. Screw the light socket adapter into the sconce.
  2. Take off the top of the puck light and insert the batteries.
  3. Place the double-sided foam adhesive on the back of the puck light and attach it to the light socket adapter.
  4. Screw the anchor into the wall.
  5. Attach the wall sconce to the anchor with the cap.
  6. Use the remote control to operate.

That’s it! As a result of this simple hack, this dark staircase leading down to my basement now has some light.

Do you have any places in your home where you could use a little extra light?

  2. I am so excited you shared this! In the process of planning an RV makeover and would love to add some country/rustic charm. We have one of these fixtures in the closet that stopped working so all I would have to add is a puck light and, well, the rest of it (LOL).

  17. Our basement is neglected, too! Partially because the stairs are dark and kind of creepy! Better lighting would definitely lower the creepy factor. Once you get past the staircase, the room is pretty cool. Thanks for a great idea! -Marci @ Stone Cottage Adventures

  21. Lisa Carol-Eiswirth says:

so I purchased these items but cant figure how to get it flush. the center bolt sticks out and if I screw forward I cant get the decorative nut on. I don’t want to drill I giant hole in the middle. How did you actually hang this?

  22. Although these wall sconces are just adorable, I couldn’t see myself doing this with puck lights.
I wanted mine for each side of the bed. I actually found lights that I love on Amazon that are battery operated. No way was I going through the hassle of wiring a light into the wall! The only drawback with these battery operated are that they are pricy, although after looking at the list price of yours as well as the puck set up, It’s actually about the same price so now I don’t feel so bad buying them..lol. I could also use extra lighting in a few places too so looks like I’ll be buying either mine or yours again. Yours does make for a nice light over the stairs. I really just wanted more of a decorative look in the bedroom but the extra light sure makes it nice for reading.

    1. Thank you for your comment, Shirley! Your battery lights sound wonderful. I love that there are so many options these days!!
