Welcome!

Hello and Happy Spring! Welcome to My Family Thyme!

If you are coming over from Kate of Southern Home and Hospitality, I am so happy you’re here!

Hi! I’m Lynne, a lifelong Connecticut gal. I’m a wife, mom, and fourth grade teacher by day and a home decor enthusiast by night. My Family Thyme is the place to find budget-friendly crafts and projects, fun decor ideas, and easy recipes.

Today I am so happy to welcome you into my home as part of the 2023 Bloggers’ Best Spring Home Tours!

2023 Bloggers’ Best Spring Home Tours!

A big thank you to my friend Kelly at The Tattered Pew for organizing and hosting this beautiful spring tour. Kelly is one of the kindest, most encouraging bloggers and I am thrilled to be joining her today. Please make sure you stop by and visit her lovely home!

This spring blog tour has been happening all week! 30 talented bloggers have opened up their homes and shared their creative ideas for welcoming this new season into their homes. Please be sure to visit all of the links at the end of this post.

After turning the clocks, it finally is starting to feel like spring. I am embracing the additional light each day. The temperatures are starting to warm up, melting away the last of the snow. These changes have inspired me to decorate for spring.

This year I am all about keeping things simple. Life tends to get very busy at this time of year for my family. So when we’re home, I tend to try to keep our home decor clean, simple, and fresh.

Spring Kitchen

Come on in! Everyone who visits our home enters through our back door. I always like to hang a seasonal wreath here to welcome our guests.

You enter right into the little spot where we eat most of our meals. My kitchen looks just a little bit different than it did last spring. I constantly like to shop my home and change things up. Can you relate?

I love this neutral dinette set that we have had for many years. If you look closely though, you might see that our pup, Sadie, has used some of the chairs and table legs as a chew toy. As a result, my husband, Andy, and I have a project to do this summer…refinishing our kitchen table and chairs.

To freshen up this space, I just popped some hydrangeas, ranunculus, and greenery from Trader Joe’s in a white pitcher. These are two of my favorite flowers and I love how they instantly add a touch of spring.

Creating little vignettes or groupings can add a decorative touch. I like to use groups of items, with varying heights and textures. Here I used a mason jar with some more ranunculus, a simple cake stand with a glass cloche, and a pretty candle to create a vignette.

Would you believe that this white mini cake stand was from our local Buy Nothing site. It is a wonderful community Facebook site where local neighbors give and receive, share, and lend. It’s so true that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure! I have both given and received gifts over the past couple of years. Thank you for this beautiful piece, Michelle!

Candles add such a cozy glow to the kitchen. These vintage looking blue glass votive and tealight holders were an Amazon find. They are both beautiful and functional.

From this view, you can catch a glimpse of our front hallway. Andy and I added the DIY board and batten a few years ago. It was such an easy and inexpensive project. It still amazes me how much it has changed the space and for so little.

A pretty wreath can add such a pop of vibrant color to a space. I recently made this spring tulip wreath. It came together in less that a half hour. You won’t believe how easy it is to make one!

I love the combination of fuchsia color mixed with the navy gingham ribbon. The best part of making your own wreath is that you can customize it with your favorite colors. What color combination would you choose?

Spring Dining Room

Let’s head into the dining room! I changed it up a bit from last spring’s decor!

This side table is a very special piece to me. Andy bought it for me at an antique store right after we were married. It was one of our first purchases and I can’t help but smile when I see it.

The table is also a spot that I like to change up for each season. I recently participated in a Pinterest Challenge all about Decorating a Lantern for Easter, so this table seemed like the perfect place to display it.

Along with the beginning of spring, it is birthday week in our home. My son, Chris, celebrated his birthday on Wednesday and my daughter, Lis, is celebrating today! Last weekend, they were both home, so I picked up a few special breakfast treats for them.

I am a big fan of Nora Murphy. Along with being an incredibly talented designer, author, and shop owner, she is such kind and encouraging person. I recently visited her beautiful shop and purchased this vintage tray from her. Isn’t it gorgeous?!

On top of a neutral runner from Target, I placed mason jars in my great-grandfather’s toolbox to create a centerpiece. Would you believe that these tulips are actually artificial?

Yep, these artificial tulips were purchased from Amazon. The white tulips were purchased two years ago and the hot pink tulips were purchased this year. I love how realistic they look!

Since these artificial tulips can be placed in water, I added two small bouquets of real daffodils from Trader Joe’s, along with some moss. You can create such a beautiful display and brighten up your room by combining real and artificial flowers.
