Welcome to Our Family Room!

This room is my favorite room in our home. It is a relaxed, cozy and comfortable room, where my family and I spend most of our time. So naturally, it is the first room in our home to receive some holiday cheer! Christmas is my favorite time of year and for me, decorating is all about adding comfort and joy to a space. This year, I am decorating my Connecticut home with a traditional vibe, using classic Christmas colors and patterns.

Every Room Needs a Tree

We always put our family Christmas tree in our living room, but I am slowly adding more trees to our home. Christmas is such a magical time and I just love the warm glow of the lights in each room! I recently found this fun pencil tree at Michaels, which is perfect for this small space. It adds a little bit of holiday cheer without overtaking the space. For the Christmas tree decoration, I kept it very simple with some wired classic plaid ribbon, glass bulbs, and a few handmade ornaments. The simplicity of this yarn heart makes me smile It was made using the same process as this yarn heart garland, and these mini embroidery hoop ornaments are so easy to make. You can read all about them HERE. If you enjoy making your own ornaments, this ribbon wrapped ornament is one of my favorites!

Create Vignettes

I love playing with my decor and moving things around. Grouping a variety of textures, colors and heights can create little spots that feel warm and welcoming. Plus, having decor on a tray is easy to move when we’re ready to use the ottoman to put our feet up at the end of a long school day!

Aren’t these little houses adorable?! Would you believe that they were a Target Dollar Spot find a couple of years ago?

Incorporate Vintage Pieces

My grandmother’s vintage milk glass pieces can be found throughout my home. Incorporating pieces of decor that are sentimental and meaningful makes me happy. This faux mercury glass votive holder is one that I made out of a yogurt jar. Add a little ribbon and it’s perfect for the holidays!

As the holidays get a little closer, I will be adding fresh greenery to this room and to our mantle. For now, I doubled up some faux garland from Michaels and incorporated a strand of soft, battery operated lights. I love how cozy this lighting feels in the evenings! The candlesticks are a Goodwill find that received a quick coat of DIY chalk paint.
