Hello Friends!  I hope you are having a great week! Since we’ve turned the calendar to February, I have been thinking about Valentine’s Day. To decorate, I made a simple yarn heart garland for my foyer and recently set my dining room table for a special Valentine’s Day dinner. I am excited to share it with you today.

Last year I my Valentine’s Day table was classic and bright, with red and white.  This year, I decided to take a different approach.  I went softer…with pretty pops of pink!

My husband and I never really enjoy going out to dinner on Valentine’s Day. In fact, I don’t recall going out on Valentine’s Day since we were dating. We don’t really like the holiday crowds and the set menus. We’re both homebodies and would prefer relaxing with a special dinner at home. So even though we’re planning to stay home, I like to make it a special evening by setting a Valentine’s Day table.  And this year it is pretty and pink!

Setting this table was so easy and fun. I love mixing styles to create a beautiful look…a little farmhouse with some vintage items come together to give this table a unique look.

An inexpensive roll of wrapping paper from Marshall’s is used as a base. The gray and white stripe is a perfect neutral backdrop for the table. On top of the wrapping paper runner is an inexpensive artificial eucalyptus garland from Amazon. I tucked in life-like pink peonies and berries that I had picked up at Michaels.  Three chunky candles sticks, with white pillar candles complete the centerpiece.

Each place setting consists of a braided sisal placemat, topped with a dollar store charger and my grandmother’s china. Her beautiful silver pieces complete each setting.

Scrapbook paper hearts, labeled with our family members’ names welcome everyone to the table.

I haven’t come up with a dinner menu yet, but I did make some fun and festive Shirley Temples with Bubly cherry sparkling water mixed with grenadine. Yum!  Do you have any menu suggestions?  I would love to hear your ideas!

  2. What a pretty table filled with romance and treasured family items. I noticed your stemware, I have some very similar so they caught my eye! The soft pink looks wonderful and very romantic! Best wishes for a nice Valentine’s Day!

  8. Lynne, your color scheme this year is gorgeous! You are the third person on this hop so far that I’ve seen use wrapping paper on the table, and it’s beautiful! Your gray stripe is just right as the base to the soft greens and peachy pinks. The candlesticks give enough weight to ground it and keep a masculine appeal, which I love implementing in my own tablescapes. Love the drink for its color appeal also! Great job, and like you, we are pretty much homebodies for the occasion. The fact that we are retired and empty nesters gives us the flexibility to go our for a nice lunch on the occasion, which is our ‘thang’, vs being out late in the evening. However you choose to celebrate, Happy February and Happy Valentine’s!

We are homebodies also. We always have the same thing to celebrate Valentine’s Day. It’s simple and we look forward to it every year. I make Heart Shaped hamburgers. Ketchup makes them look like real hearts. They are served on fresh onion rolls. A simple salad, some root beer soda, and an eclare for the sweet tooth are all we need. Soft background dinner music, dimmed lighting and our recycled Valentine’s card which we date every year. I use candy heart shaped containers that have messages of love printed on the top which I serve with our meal. Happy Valentines Day Lynn. xoxoxo
